Company Signs Expanded Service Agreement to Begin Standardizing Batch Plants on Solution to Improve Profitability of Manufacturing Operations

Aspen Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AZPN) today announced that Rohm and Haas Company (NYSE: ROH), one of the world's top specialty chemical companies, has signed a service agreement for the deployment of AspenTech's production optimization solution, Plantelligence(TM), in its batch manufacturing plants worldwide. The company licensed Plantelligence for worldwide use last year following a successful implementation at its Deer Park plant in Houston. The worldwide implementation will occur over several years and is projected to deliver multimillion-dollar annual benefits for Rohm and Haas, and provide additional capital savings.

"We selected AspenTech's Enterprise Solutions team for this program because they can provide the industry expertise and rigorous project methodology that is essential for a complex global implementation of this kind," said Paul Baduini, Vice President of Engineering, Rohm and Haas. "By committing to a worldwide deployment, we expect to achieve significant improvements in manufacturing profitability. We believe this will bring even more value to our SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system which we are in the process of implementing."

Plantelligence will enable Rohm and Haas to continue to increase the quality and consistency of its products while simultaneously improving plant efficiencies. It is also expected to drive plant operations to higher levels of productivity. The solution enables batch plant managers and operators to monitor plant performance in real-time, and respond optimally to the information.

"Our Plantelligence solution helps companies transform the way they manage their manufacturing operations, by enabling them to focus on the business impact rather than on simply controlling the process," said Larry Evans, Chairman and CEO of AspenTech. "The rigorous approach used by our implementation teams will help ensure that the solutions generate maximum value for Rohm and Haas, and that this value is sustained in the future."

Plantelligence is an essential component of AspenTech's ProfitAdvantage(TM) solution for the chemical, petroleum and other process industries. Aspen ProfitAdvantage increases the profitability of process companies by enabling the optimization of their entire value chain from the supply of raw materials, through production, to the delivery of the final product.
