AspenTech Elects David McQuillin to Board of Directors

David McQuillin will replace Joe Boston as Director

Aspen Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AZPN) today announced that David McQuillin has been elected by the Board of Directors to replace Joe Boston, who will become Director Emeritus of the company effective October 1, 2002. At that time, McQuillin will also become President and Chief Executive Officer, as previously announced, succeeding Lawrence B. Evans, who will continue working full-time as Chairman. McQuillin will serve out the remainder of Boston's term, which expires in 2004; with this transition, the Board will continue to be comprised of two AspenTech executives and five outside directors.

Joe Boston has served as a Director of AspenTech since the company was founded in 1981. He will continue in a part-time role with the company as Senior Corporate Advisor and serve as a technology advisor to the company. McQuillin joined the company in June 1997 as head of worldwide sales and marketing and was promoted to co-chief operating officer in November 2000.
