Aspen Golden Batch Profiler(TM) and the Addition of Batch SPC Capability to Aspen Q(TM) Provide Batch Manufacturers with Important New Capabilities to Manage and Optimize Their Production

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2006-- Aspen Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AZPN), a leading provider of software and services to the process industries, today announced the release of two significant enhancements targeted at batch processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The new application Aspen Golden Batch Profiler, and the addition of batch-to-batch statistical process control (SPC) capability to Aspen Q, provide manufacturers with important new tools to help them optimize the production efficiency and quality of batch processes.

These new enhancements form part of AspenTech's aspenONE(TM) Production Management & Execution solution for batch manufacturing, which optimizes the utilization of manufacturing resources, increases product quality, revenue, and customer satisfaction. This solution forms a framework for innovative manufacturing, enabling companies to build quality into the product while maximizing the use of manufacturing resources.

"We see an increasing demand on pharmaceutical and chemical batch manufacturing operations to cut costs while maintaining or exceeding the required quality, regulatory and environmental standards," said Blair Wheeler, Senior Vice President, AspenTech. "Aspen Golden Batch Profiler and batch-to-batch statistical process control in Aspen Q address these requirements and represent another step AspenTech is taking to continue to deliver integrated operations applications for these industries."

Aspen Golden Batch Profiler enables manufacturers to optimize efficiency and quality by ensuring that the production profile adheres to the ideal or "golden" profile established for each batch. The solution comes with a profile builder wizard that allows process engineers to build the desire targeted profiles from historical data or import an existing model from other sources such as Microsoft Excel(TM). Each model can be recipe specific. The system then automatically selects the correct profile for each batch during execution, as well as allows automatic computation of profiles.

Aspen Q provides real-time statistical process and quality control (SPC/SQC) monitoring, analysis and alarming. The new batch-to-batch SPC capability enables batch manufacturers to enhance production quality by providing on-line as well as ad-hoc statistical monitoring of batch characteristics in the batch context. It is now possible to highlight to the end user deviation from target following "Western Electric" rules based on the current recipe being executed.
